About NAPLAN Year 3 Spelling
In NAPLAN, spelling sits in the Language Conventions test, together with grammar and punctuation. It checks whether students can spell everyday words correctly and spot mistakes in their own writing. Common question types include finding the misspelled word in a sentence and choosing the correct spelling.
Test length, question numbers and formats can change from year to year, so check the official NAP website for the latest details.

- 3Check each word in a sentence one at a time.

- 5If you are stuck, move on and come back later.
Frequently asked questions
How should my child use this practice page?
Let them work through one set at a time on their own. Then talk about any red answers together and ask them to write the tricky words out three times.
How often should we practise?
Short and regular works best. Ten to fifteen minutes, a few times a week, is better than one long session the night before.
How can we practise spelling away from the screen?
Try look, say, cover, write and check with a few new words each week. Reading together and noticing tricky words in books also helps.
