About NAPLAN Year 9 Numeracy
NAPLAN is a national assessment for Australian students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The Year 9 Numeracy test checks how well students use maths to solve problems in number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability. Questions use real-life situations, need several steps and often combine ideas such as percentages with equations or geometry with algebra.
Test length, question numbers, calculator use and formats can change from year to year, so check the official NAP website for the latest details.

- 4Check the units, such as cm, m², litres or minutes.
- 5If you are stuck, move on and come back later.
Frequently asked questions
How should my child use this practice page?
Let them work on paper first, then pick an answer. Talk about any red answers together and ask them to explain each step of the method.
Should my child use a calculator?
Try without one first, as mental and written skills matter. Check the official NAP website to see how calculators are used in the current test.
How often should we practise?
Short and regular works best. Two or three short sessions a week is better than one long session the night before.
